While looking for images of Southern Pacific's "C. P. Huntington," I came across this site. Some of the images are older, some are newer, no doubt some have been seen by readers here before. In any event, I thought it might be of interest for your perusal.

A few special images:

First up is this photo of a V&T 4-4-0, the famous "Genoa." She of course is around today at Sacramento, but I'm curious about where and when this photo was taken, and what is in the consist behind the tender. Any clues?

You go in some museums and antique shops and you find things like old washing machines, etc. Normally we wouldn't have much use for those around a railroad museum, but then again. . .how did Sears get them to your home?

Hmm, the "Oregon Pony" should be visible in this somewhere, but I don't see it; wonder where it was?

Oh, my--I can't help but recall the incident in Edward Custer's "No Royal Road" about "making the stop at Greensburg," and the famous Robert Pitcairn's response to Custer's testimony in the accident inquest that followed. . . oh, what a scene from a movie that would be, but I'll let that story come from someone else, or save it for another day. . .

Here's one I hadn't seen before; would make a great Christmas card today:

How I wish this station was still around:

Finally, one for the electric fans:

General sites; for some reason, the photo selection changes every time you get on, so it will never look the same on a return visit, but it does look like everything is still there, you just have to hope you can find it.

Enjoy!

Amazing site. Thanks for posting the link.

Below some west coast images from that site using the "BB-code" for each image:

More stumbling going on, in this case while looking for an image of the Natchez & Hamburg's "Mississippi"--a card index page on a site called "Card Cow." Among other things, check out the various SP Mallets, from a time when those engines may have had "world's largest" as part of their descriptions:

Some notable photos from the page as I found it. . .

What looks like an in-service shot of the 2-footer Bridgeton & Harrison No. 8:

What engine is this? From what road? The card doesn't say.

In-cab shot on Pine Creek's Shay:

Streamlined tank engine (shop switcher) on the Southern Pacific:

Listed as from the V&T, but she's not--she's the Carson & Tahoe's No. 1, the "Glenbrook," and she's still around and under restoration (thanks to Brian Norden for this information in the "Bonanza Railroad Power" thread):

Alaska Railroad 557 has been in the news recently, to be returned to the ARR for restoration and operation--and she's here, too:

Chicago & North Western's Pioneer is still around--but sadly, none of the H-class 4-8-4s made it into preservation:

I recall reading about this Illinois Central 2-4-4T somewhere, and that she's still around. Anybody care to share details?

And finally, what I had been looking for:

Have fun.

While looking for more photos of surviving 19th century steam locomotives, I came across these sites; both feature photos I haven't seen before, and in the case of the Blue Ridge Chapter NRHS site, there are also photos from many obscure short line roads.

Those postcard images of the IC engine and the "Mississippi" look like they were from the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago, or at least the same building in an earlier period.
