The Bioscience and Natural Resources Library at the University of California at Berkeley has just released an on-line archive which may be of interest.

The Fritz-Metcalf Photograph Collection is a collection of approximately 9,000 photographs taken between 1910 and 1960.

Quote:
Emanuel Fritz and Woodbridge Metcalf were among the first to join the faculty of the new School of Forestry at UC Berkeley in the early years of the last century. They were also avid amateur photographers who together created an extensive collection of photographs documenting their passionate involvement with forestry and the University. Subjects include:

the activities of the University of California Berkeley's School of Forestry, including the Forestry Club and Forestry Summer Camp
forest research, reforestation and conservation
fire protection, firefighting equipment, and lookout stations
logging operations, equipment, and lumber mills
roads, railroads, bridges, and other logging infrastructure
the University campus

RYPN readers with an interest in logging railroads might find some interesting material .

The photographers' perspective is that of a forester or a logging engineer rather than as a railfan, so there is more emphasis on equipment and infrastructure, and less on spectacular photographs of long log trains.

Thanks for the link! There's some great photos there in high enough resolution to see some details.
