PSRM (Campo, San Diego County, SD&A/SD&AE) has acquired an ex Southern Pacific GP 9 locomotive that is at Camp Pendleton. This locomotive was delivered new to the SP in August of 1959 as SP 5873 the SECOND low nose GP-9 ever built by EMD! It was later renumbered SP 3709, later in life it went to the military, and wore different paint schemes and numbers, finally arriving some time ago at Camp Pendleton as USAX 1401. These locomotives ran frequently through the Carrizo Gorge and Campo into San Diego on the San Diego & Arizona Eastern Railway - then owned by Southern Pacific. We now need to put some money together to move it! Yes due to the current conditions of our railroad (beyond our limits) this locomotive will need to be trucked to Campo. We are seeking donations ASAP to get this project rolling. The condition of the loco is uncertain, but a preliminary inspection looks really good, and we know it has run recently. Please see the attached flier. Let's start 2012 out right for PSRM! Just imagine two SP GP-9s running multiple unit at Campo!

Wes - Yes. It's a high nose GP9 which was owned by Southern Pacific's Cotton Belt.

Marty - they would pull every active passenger car - certainly. However - every car? We have close to ninty pieces of equipment - they could both pull them downhill!! Coming back from Mexico would be a problem, however.
