Post subject:  July 11, 2011: Seashore Trolley Museum
Back when the "Moxie Day" topic was still alive with debates on the best soda, I finally went to the Seashore Trolley Museum. Along for the day were my family; both of my parents (Dave and Mary Lambert), both of my younger brothers (Kyle Lambert, our resident football player and computer expert and Ryan Lambert, the family Caterpillar diesel expert) and my sister (Samantha Lambert). We first rode the Boston Elevated Car. While amazingly restored, it was mid July, so all of us in the car were baking. After we got off to look around a bit, the Boston Elevated made one more run before being switched for Connecticut Company 303. There is a car! It was like having A/C on, so I'm not surprised that open cars are popular for summer days (it was the high 80s during our visit). We strolled through the car barns, and made our way to the shop. While on the balcony, all of us saw a handful of cars in different states of repair, ranging from ready for service to stripped to bare metal. I left with some excellent books on the New Haven electric fleet, as well as their passenger stock (including my favorite Osgood Bradley lightweights and the associated information) and some of their diesel fleet. I uploaded my pictures this morning to two albums on the Facebook page "Railfans of USA". Considering school got canceled only ten minutes before I had to leave to go wait for the bus, I figured I'd take a trip down memory lane this morning.

Dylan,

I am glad you enjoyed your trip to Seashore. "Breezers" were very popular in the early 1900s. Their only drawback for most street railway systems was that you could only use them part of the year.

The Vera Cruz open car now at IRM has been very popular the few times I have operated it. Usually it is packed on every loop of the streetcar loop.

When visiting my aunt and uncle who now live in New Castle, NH this past July, I had a chance to taste Moxie. Whomever said it tasted like "burnt root beer" was correct.
