Sloan,

Thanks for posting this. Betty was treasurer for National Capital Trolley Museum in the 1980s. She was a qualified operator on most of our cars, including the single-truck European trams. As late as the early 1990s she would share operator duties on Third Avenue Railway 678 with her husband Dave Gaul. Those of you with experience with the reverse brake pedal on TARS lightweights can appreciate Betty's skill as an operator.

Betty's husband Dave later served as treasurer at NCTM as well. Dave was an engineer at Transit Research Corp, the organization that oversaw patents and continuing development of the PCC car. Some of his stories and exploits have been recorded on audio and video tape. The Gauls are a transit family. Two of their three children serve in senior management positions for transit operations in NY and Dallas. A grandson is pursuing graduate studies in urban planning.

Betty and Dave were great friends for many years and will be missed.

Wesley
