Break out your handkerchief when you watch this film. "The Diesel is like a sardine can to me." Note, CNR 47 and CPR 2816 appear in the film. Both locomotives preserved by F. Nelson Blount, creator of Steamtown. CPR 2816 lives in steam today, representing the CPR system.

Hmm... not just the steam locomotives are smoking.

Didn't you get the email? Asbestos caused all that cancer.

When's the last time you wore a coat, tie and fedora to a rail fan event?

Impressions:

Why did they get the sound wrong on the diesels? Why do Alcos have an EMD chant? And steam sound is (mostly) out of synchronization as usual.

"We've just got to put up with the change, that's all." Sees what was needed, but didn't sound too enthusiastic about it.

"We had a special era, one good century of locomotives. . ." Reminds me that I live in the wrong time. . .

Railfans still act like they did then, including wading through water to get to a spot for just the right photo, but the old guys dressed better; check out the hats and ties!

Glad to see and hear the late Omar Lavalle (sp?)

Cool to see the 2816 in service, even cooler to see a shortened segment on firing up a 4-8-4. . .interesting to see that 47 was in a dead line, but she would escape. . .the employees appreciate diesels, but would rather have kept steam. . .

Oh, I live in the wrong time, the wrong time for sure. . .oh, and fedoras are nice, surprisingly warm in cold weather, cool in hot weather (keeps the sun out of that hole I now have in my hair), only disadvantage is that that brim catches the wind, you have to watch breezy days. . .and, a bit of a surprise, a fedora today seems to be something of a "chick magnet!" I have these young girls who comment on it, say they like it. . .they say I'm cool, which is funny, as I'm about the biggest square I know. . .I had to ask one of these pretty young things, "Where were you 30 years ago, when I was single?". . .my wife thought that funny when I told her about it!
