Post subject:  pullman car ceilings - rewiring?

We have a business car in our collection we would like to rewire. It was converted from a coach by the C of G in the 20's. The ceilings are vaulted sheet metal, with strips about 2" wide covering the seams as they run across the car. The strips appear to be riveted to the ceiling material. The sides of the vaulted ceiling come down to a piece of crown mold, which projects out about 1 1/2".
There is too much "stuff" (insulation, old wires, etc.) to "fish" a wire from light fixture location to light fixture location. We cannot get the old wire loose enough to use it to pull new into place.

We are looking for suggestions on how to rewire, other than cutting holes in the roof or ceiling. We are have discussed putting a piece of trim contiaining the wiring right down the center of the ceiling, and mounting the fixtures to that.
It would at least be reversible, and do no damage to the car. Any suggestions?

Thanks
