Post subject:  Anyone have a 1960 (plus or minus a year) ORER available?

Matt Bumgarner posted a new thread looking for a pre-1894 edition. I am looking for a 1960 (or `59 or `61) edition in an effort to try to come up with the road number of our Pennsy class F30d flat car. I found a July 1966 ORER but apparently a couple of F30d's had been retired by that time. I am CLOSE to estimating the cars number, maybe within 3 numbers or so. BTW, this has to do with the fact that the PRR assigned 115 of the 250 total number of cars in this class to TRUC-TRAIN service in 1954 and then in 1957 and 1958 sold just 86 of these 115 cars to Trailer Train with the other 29 cars remaining with their original Pennsy numbers. I have identified 27 of the 29 cars remaining on the PRR roster, but not the other two. Hopefully, an ORER closer to this transfer date will result in my finding the other two car numbers. I know that I could probably purchase an ORER, but I don't want to do that just for an hour or so of checking the Pennsylvania Railroad records contained therein.

Thanks for anyone who might be able to offer some help.

Les,

If no one has anything handy, there are 1959 and 1961 editions currently offered on CD-ROM via ebay right now.

Best I can offer is 1971, pretty deep into PC but reply if that may help.

Pat - The Oct 1956 ORER is a bit too early, but thanks for checking. Let me say this too; the 475550 to 475749 numbered cars you mentioned were actually F30e class cars and not class F30d. I believe that at least two of these F30e's were also equipped to carry trailers. This class car is not part of what I am looking for. The 113 F30d class that you show as being FC's (TOFC cars) is a bit confusing as according to what I have read, there were 115 cars (not 113) assigned by the Pennsy to Truc-Train in 1955 and their car numbers were unchanged in that service. Perhaps by the October 1956 date of your ORER, two of the cars had been taken out of that service and reassigned FM, or possibly to some other service.

Again, thanks for the information.

Nickbnwd - The offer is appreciated, but the 1971 is beyond what I am looking for.

HI Les

The flatcars you are looking for were built in 1951 , if the information that I found is correct . The class did start at 475300 as f30d's and ended at 475749 , as class FM and FC & FMS .
vlisted in the Official Railway Equipment Register (ORER)):
Class Car Number AAR Class PRR Oct 44 PRR Oct 48 PRR Apr 52 PRR Oct 53 PRR Oct 58 PRR Oct 63 PRR Apr 68
F30 470100 470199 FM 94 93 92 92 92 86 12
F30 470300 470309 FM 10 - - - - - -
F30a 473765 475265 FM FMS 1500 1500 1500 1499 1456 1272 1203
F30c 470299 - FM 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
F30d 475300 475549 FC FM FMS - - 250 250 164 164 164
F30e 475550 475749 FC FM - - NEW NEW 200 200 199
F30f 473765 475265 LP - - - - 3 3 3
F30h 473765 475265 LP - - - - - 19 19
Even through the railroad would start trailor on flatcar in the early 50's , but truc train did not take off until 1954, the class of the flatcar did start off as F30d's but ended as F30'e's . Les Note picture of F30d flatcar in 1954 Pat

Hi Les,

I've got a digitized 1/1959 ORER (plus 36 other issues from 1901-1959). The 20 pages for the Pennsy are only nine meg; want me to email 'em all to you?
