| Post subject: | Request - ALCO AAR Type "B" truck illustration? |
I am attempting to cast a set of these in 1/8th scale. I am unable to find plans, diagrams, or illustrations, to help me with the numbers. I've been working of photos of trucks being salvaged or swapped out, but a diagram would be so much more helpful. Anyone have such an animal they'd be willing to scan and email me? |

This was a standard truck, made by Commonwealth/General Steel Castings, and interestingly, was never apparently considered an "AAR" design: http://utahrails.net/loconotes/loconote ... #typeAandB The key dimensions that are available is a 9' 4" wheelbase, and 40" wheels. Although I could not find a truck drawing as such, some locomotive drawings are available. http://trainiax.net/me55-ge.php http://trainiax.net/mescaleloco36-undectype.php From what I can tell, this type of truck is actually similar to a 4-wheel drop equalizer passenger truck, also called a "Commonwealth" truck, although obviously a good deal larger and heavier, and using two drop equalizers per side if my memory is right. Guys- Thanks for your fine efforts. Now you see what I'm having difficulty finding! The locomotive black line drawings are only somewhat useful, and yes, I've been through tons of them. I've actually referred to the drawings in the ALCO locomotive manual for the C420, C424, C425, ut what I really need is a diagram of the truck itself, the truck exploded, the illustration or plan. One would think such a popular truck would be easy to find, but I can't find it anywhere. I'm n internet research hound of sorts, so this was my best hope. If somebody finds it, or has a copy, a scan posted publicly would be a huge contribution to the hobby. Thank you, everyone! |
