I just found this today. This group plans on building a Thompson L1 2-6-4 tank engine. They have only made the announcement within the last few days, yet the group has already found a overall drawing of Thompson's L1. The L1 tank engines were designed to become the new heavy passenger tank engine of the London and North Eastern Railway. The prototype for the class, LNER 9000, was completed in May of 1945 and entered a series of rigorous testing until 1947 on everything between express services and heavy shunting duties, yet these came with mixed results in some cases. There were 100 production engines that were built under British Railways, but all the L1s were scrapped in 1962 by British Railways. They suffered a problem from hot boxes that was never solved. If this group manages to get traction, and I have no doubt they will, I hope they manage to solve that problem! It definitely appears that Tornado has made some serious waves in the new build department...
