Post subject:  RMLI Winter Equipment Update
With such warm weather this winter we are getting a lot of work done here on Long Island. I started working on one of our baggage cars in need of paint yesterday. I want to hold off with the last coats of paint on out little 25 toner till it stays warm for more then a day, so it is time to start prepping more stuff for that spring time painting weather.

Our Baggage Car is used as a tool car and has a great deal of paint pealing, so little by little she is getting primed and all cleaned up.

We also have volunteer carpenters working on rebuilding the doors and windows to our 0-6-0T BEDT Engine 16. The doors are almost done and ready to go on the engine.

President Fisher has written up what happens during the week at both our Greenport and Riverhead Sites!

In Riverhead Carpenters continue to work on rebuilding doors and windows for BEDT Engine 16, Our interns cotinine to progress in our library, and work also continues with the historic Lionel visitor's center layout!

In Greenport our volunteers work to extend our HO replica of the Greenport LIRR to Riverhead, adding over 20 feet to our model!

A lot going on this week at the Railroad Museum of Long Island

During the week work continued on the Lionel Visitor's Center while the doors were fitted for BEDT Engine 16

On Saturday Baggage Car 7727 got 4 gallons of paint, as did one of the trucks to our G-16 train set (just not 4 gallons) while pipes were run to our GP38-2 Cab Simulator so it will have electricity with Caboose C-68

My thought exactly, thank you for understanding Richard! It is nice to see someone whom is level headed and understands how important this is.

It has been an unbelievably busy winter in all the departments on the museum. We have crews working every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday at both our museums and on all our projects. I can barely keep the blog up to date :-)

So far this week we started getting out LIRR RS-3 1556 ready for paint, while we finished the primer job on our baggage car. More wooden frames were made for Engine 16's new windows and the Lionel crew continued with improvements and modifications! Check out the blog for more photos and info, as well as our Facebook fan. Be out friend! Why not? I update it with many pictures and links, very often. It looks very interesting if I do say so.

Anthony, just a recommendation to heavily prime and paint those wooden frames on BEDT #16, then caulk the blazes out of them, once installed. Straight pine will rot out in no time at all, and you'll be back to "square 1". It's great to see that little locomotive getting the attention she has long missed.

Glad to hear your working Mike! I don't have any control over the Engine 16 project :-)

We just keep moving along here at the Railroad Museum of Long Island. President Fisher has just me the most recent report of museum progress.Taking a break from the equipment this weekend, we worked to rebuilt the control panel on the Historic Lionel Layout. Check out the blog for more info and photos.

Another week and 1556 is back to grey. Should be close to done this time next week, as long as it does not rain. Getting geared up for Opening Day at RMLI Riverhead! Check the blog for more pixs and info on the project!

Anthony, make certain it's the correct shade of gray! These babies arrived from ALCO in the dark blue-gray with orange ends. The black frame and trucks look superb.

Correct, Smoke Grey. You know as well as I do it is going to need work again in 6-7 years, so it is not worth spending $60 a gallon to get custom mixed :-)

Anthony, get the right color for the RS3. Get the paint as a tax right off donation from a local company. Why is there never time to do it correctly, but always time to do it over again?

Rich G,

Problem is finding the company with the extra cash to donate the quantity of paint in this economic environment, let alone getting free paint during the time of year paint is not moving. Wallets tend to be locked shut when stock on the shelves are not moving quickly.
