NH & P&WV are cancelled-replaced by CNJ and original NS. The NYC lightening stripe scheme looks pretty snazzy on an ACe. |

Does it seem strange to anyone else that they would do Erie and Erie Lackawana, but not DL&W????? And as much as I might like the S&A and TAG, what about Georgia and Florida, Tennessee Railroad, Tennessee Central, NF&D, or??? Not complaining, but just strange/interesting. ETA |

ETA I assume that since the EL scheme IS the DL&W scheme they decided to do EL. The Erie is going to be the passenger two tone scheme. |

I must disagree with EL and DL&W...They might have the same colors but the scheme is totally different. Now DL&W and Algoma Central... |

Tim, you're certainly more in the know on the EL than I, but I do seem to recall at least two DL&W schemes? Granted, one of them kind of reminds you of the current NS scheme (or PC, or NYC, or N&W), but you'd sure hope they'd use the "pretty" one! |

We (ELDCPS) were contacted by NS about a month ago and we supplied paint colors as were as painting diagrams for an EL SD45 and an Erie PA to them. I'm not bothered about EL taking the place of DL&W - it was William White the former Lackawanna president who dropped the brief use of Erie yellow and back on freight diesels. I can see the Erie as the two tone green was a pleasing scheme. My personal wish would have been for a Lehigh & Hudson River loco. The scheme they used on their C420s would have worked well. |

Regardless, it should be all or nothing when it comes to DL&W, Erie, and EL. Either do the EL, or do the Erie and the DL&W, or do all three. They're doing PRR, NYC, and PC; why can't they do Erie, DL&W, and EL? |

Well, since were all chiming in on what schemes should be included.... NS, if your listening, Is it too much to ask for an L&NE scheme? I'm mean c'mon, it's not like you need to order any special paint colors..... One of those GE's would be preferable. Ill be happy to help with the graphics work....... |

I'm seriously reminded of the cartoon that appeared in the early days of Railfan Magazine, with a guy wearing the then-still-cliched vest completely covered with rail logo patches, and two other, bigger railroaders or railfans (with the cliched engineer's caps) pointing at his vest and saying, "How come OUR road ain't on there??" If "your" road is left off the list, go grab a model of a SD70ACe and do a paint job on it, and submit it to management. That has managed to convince at least a couple railroad executives on short lines and even the big roads to spend the money on a paint job....... |

My e-mail already had several messages this morning from people complaining that the program will not represent "their" railroad, and advocating letter writing projects to Norfolk Southern. Most if not all of the folks writing never worked a day for the railroad they want represented, nor for NS. I am sure all these letters will impress NS management, but probably not in the way the writers intend. Bottom line, it is their locomotives, their paint, and their program. PC |

Wow- it's hard (for me) to believe that was 30 years ago. I went to work for the N&W right before the merger; IIRC I got one N&W paycheck and the next said Norfolk Southern. I guess mergers have been around almost as long as there have been railroads. It was interesting for me working in a former Nickel Plate town (Bellevue, OH); there was still noticeable resentment about how things had changed after the merger with N&W. What was equally enlightening is you'd occasionally hear someone in the shop griping about "those bastards that took us over", only to find out he was talking about when the Nickel Plate took over the Wheeling and Lake Erie! I'm sure there are plenty of guys out there now still griping about the effects of this merger 30 years ago. |
