Nigel Day is currently working in Australia, I believe mainly on the West Coast Wilderness Railway where he has previously installed Lempor exhausts on several locomotives (see Martyn Bane's pages for information: http://www.martynbane.co.uk/). Nigel sent me a couple of photos showing what he's working on.

The first photo is described as showing a Kordina under construction. The Kordina is the portion of the exhaust system below the nozzles where the exhaust steam passages from the two cylinders come together. When properly designed, the exhaust from one cylinder induces a vacuum on the exhaust passages of the other cylinder, helping to reduce the backpressure.



The second photo shows Nigel posing with a Fowler locomotive undergoing work.



Nigel sounds very positive about what he's going to be working on; hopefully he will provide us some additional details on his efforts.

That looks like a lot of lobes on that Kordina.....perhaps it is upside down and those will feed a multiple jet Lempor? Nigel does some very interesting work and I'm always happy to read about it.

Thank you Hugh for posting the pictures. I can now explain a little of whats going on. Firstly the Fowler is the loco we ran the thread on lempor nozzles. The Lempor is now all but complete.There is other work to finish.

The First picture is as Hugh says a variation on the Kordina. In many ways it is similar to that used on a sports car exhaust system. The picture is correct way up although it is now welded to a bench upside down for other work to be done. The loco involved is a four cylinder machine so four lobes if thats what you want to call them. I know that there are in curculation various types of Kordina design but whats inside this is very difrent. It will take time to finish and ground tests are planed before fitting. I wish to make it clear. I am not intrested in just copying the work of Porta, Wardale etc but moving on to develope further. I have no interst in repeating work to prove what I did learn 20 years ago. This loco I am working on now will carry much delopment work that I have been unable to prove before and I will post what I can as things develope.

Please, I dont want this thread like some to become an open argument of what I should be doing or what should have done but wish to use this as an opitunity to show what is being done to modernise steam today. I will where I can answer questions.
