Post subject: | Virginia & Truckee Charter Pix |
On February 8th Lerro Productions ran a steam charter on the new Virginia & Truckee Railway in Virginia City, NV. It was an excellent opportunity to photograph a very historic and very scenic line in great, winter light. Our photo train consisted of Locomotive #29, a Baldwin Consolidation that was built in the same timeframe as the last of the original V&T Engines, and two former DLW Coaches that are currently being used on the weekend runs between Mound House and Virginia City. Weather was pretty much wall-to-wall sun, with a few decorative high clouds. Here are a few pictures from the day: -Sunrise at MP 14.8: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 574&nseq=0 -Traversing the fill at Overman Pit: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 753&nseq=1 -Tunnel #4: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 771&nseq=2 -Passing the collapsed Tunnel #3: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 971&nseq=3 -Emerging from Tunnel #2: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 985&nseq=4 -Landscape shot at MP 11.7: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 013&nseq=5 -Crown Point Mine and site of historic trestle: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 225&nseq=1 -Alpine sunset at Scales: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 226&nseq=7 Thanks to Pete Lerro, Ron Burkhard and Tom Gray for a very enjoyable day. For those who have not visited this line, it is well worth a trip. Not only is there a train ride over the VC Line that largely follows the original ROW, but there are 4 engines from the original V&T that are on display at the NSRM in Carson City and the Comstock History Center in Virginia City. There are also still some remnants of the original line to Reno that can be explored. /Kevin |
