We are looking for any and all information on Nathan #4 Monitor injectors. Any patent information that is available. We would like any dimensional drawings of any of the other size injectors that Nathan built. We can scale down from #6 or #8 injectors if we can get the dimensions of the internal parts.

We have eight #4 injectors that are in need of internal parts to keep our McDermott Pacific locomotives at Swanton running.

There is a book by Nathan Manufacturing Company that is available at the Michigan State Library call number TJ675.N27. There might be the information in that book we can use.

The internal parts to our injectors are all worn; they were put on the engines in 1914, so measurements of them will not give original dimensions.

I have a decent number of nathan books, none have any critical dimensions as you need. I suggest contacting Bernie Watts at Backshop Enterprises, he should be able to take care of you.

Steamtown National Parks Holds a large collection of Nathan Drawings and probably have most of the drawings you might need. Interesting Nathan injector drawings that I have looked at use mostly Metric dimensions. I never have recieved a good answer for Nathan using metric dimensions but have heard Nathan started with Friedman Patents which I think were German

Have you contacted the California State Railroad Museum to get access to the injectors on their loco, which was never used, so presumably has factory spec parts.

I suspect that an arraignment could be made to allow disassemblely and measurement of that locos injectors.

If I remember correctly the McDermott pacifics injectors were two valve injectors [a screw steam and screw water valve]but not a simplex type I looked through a couple Nathan catalogs I have and your injectors really look like industrial injectors shown in a picture in my 1907 Nathan railway catalogue which noted that those injectors were exclusively made for them. I have no other information on these injectors so appears hard to identify. My contact at steamtown that had the greatest knowledge about the Nathan drawings has retired so I can only suggest the Librarian or Curator but first you will have to identify which injector you have.

Would substituting the Nathan's with Penberthy's be an option. The cost of a new Penberthy vs. remanufacturing Nathan parts has become an issue these days especially with oddball sized injectors.

Dennis Daugherty is right,

Steamtown has the entire Nathan engineering archive. If its not there its probably not anywhere.

The problem is finding it, the archive is so large that its not easy to find any one thing, but it can be done.
