Ffestiniog Railway returns Hugh Napier to steam

An 0-4-0ST of the "large quarry" class of Hunslet engines, Hugh Napier is owned by the Nation Trust (UK), who kept it on display at Penrhyn Castle in Wales. Hugh Napier arrived on the Ffestiniog Railway in July 2011 with a newly constructed boiler. It is to become a roving ambassador for the National Trust, visiting various narrow gauge railways throughout the UK. But they are not all of the same gauge. How many are there of the Ffestiniog's gauge?

In Wales there are 10 lines that match the track guage of the Ffestiniog Railway. I'm not sure of how many others in England.

Neat little locomotive (and "chick magnet"); the rebuilding work looks first class.

What impressed me most was the sound, or lack of it. Just a little bit of exhaust now and then (light engine, of course), but what was particularly noticeable was the lack of rod noise. The thing was so quiet it reminded me of a Gauge 1 electric model.

Congratulations to the people across the pond keeping steam alive there. . .
