I read a short (very short in fact) article in yesterday's Boston Metro that said almost half of Cuba's sugar mills would be closing. While I guess it wasn't too newsworthy judging by the amount of space given to the story, it could have serious implications for Cuba's sugar mill lines and the mostly American-built steam locomotives that work them. Needless to say, there was no mention of the trains in the article. Here's the story:

CUBA PLANS TO CLOSE HALF OF ITS SUGAR MILLS

HAVANA. Cuba plans to close almost half of its sugar mills due to stagnant output and low world prices, sources said yesterday. (Reuters)

Closings and use of more trucks is hurting steam in Cuba, more than diesels would. Haven't been there but my brother was twice.
below image has a cuban engine. Can you tell which one is in Cuba?
