Yesterday whilst working on car 57 i found the absolute proof i needed that the corner posts on the car were decorated in gold. The lamp bracket has gold leaf (and a later layer of gold paint) across the top were the lining on the post would have been. This matches the only known photo i have of a similar decorated car at Pullman's in 1888.
Good news except it means more work !
