Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village at Avella, PA has available for immediate disposition a 1909 ex-NKP wood caboose. The cost of the car to any qualified group willing to remove the car at their expense would be zero. The car is complete with all interior fittings and stove and is in generally good condition overall. The original trucks were replaced at some point by cast frame trucks with N&W markings. The N&W number for the car is 559155. It was acquired by Meadowcroft in 1974 and has been on public exhibit at its present location since at least 1988. It is approximately 35' long, 9' wide, 16' high, and weighs 20 tons. Interested parties are invited to contact David Scofield, Director at Meadowcroft, at 724-587-3412 to arrange viewing and discuss moving arrangements. Photos can be had on request. This item is placed by Pennsylvania Trolley Museum as a courtesy to Meadowcroft, a sister organization in preservation. PTM has no interest in the car other than wishing to see it transferred to a good home. The usual statement "Serious interests only, no tire-kickers please" applies here. |

Here's a link to some further info and photos of the NKP caboose: http://www.thepwvhiline.com/BB/viewtopi ... 87220a49cd In response to a question raised therein, the passenger car is UP business car 107. A new home for it in a more appropriate venue is already under discussion with the owners. |
