History of this roundhouse in Cleveland?

That is the Roundhouse and Turntable of the Newburgh & South Shore Railroad. It was built around 1910 by the Newburgh & South Shore and is still owned and used daily by the same railroad.

That is an interesting find. The intact car shops to the west could probably hold 16 or so coaches, depending on how it is configured. I wonder what the status of all of this is, and also what is the status of the Midwest Railway Preservation Society and its effort to restore things at the 3rd street roundhouse.

It is probably too big an "IF" to mention this, but if current things at the CSX were not working out, and if an amicable relationship with the N&SS could be made, it would make a fairly nice site for a museum. I don't know if Omnitrax would consider any operations over its active freight lines, but there is an abandoned ROW of a B&O spur to South Brooklyn, which follows the scenic Mill Creek.

The north end of the old B&O route is near the N&SS shops. The south end is at a wye that may be currently used by turning trains of the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic. Freeway interchanges are not too far from this roundhouse site either, and they are full-access to a grid system of streets. Access to the CSX roundhouse looks a bit convoluted.

South Brooklyn was considered the heart of the foreclosure crisis. Maybe they have economic recovery grants available for projects in that community.

It might be a goofy idea, but it was entertaining to consider. Perhaps the turntable at the N&SS is too short for the 4070 anyway, and maybe the MRPS has finally purchased the CSX building and/or gotten funds to fix it up.
