Good Evening Folks, We are pleased to announce that the paitning part of the cosmetic restoration of LIRR 1556 is now completed. She now sports two fresh coats of orange and grey paint, with a new layer of primer under that. In the coming weeks we will be replacing some of the broken windows in the cab, cleaning if out and painting the interior of the cab as time allows. For now the outside of 1556 is ready for the public when we open on April 14th!!! Next up is 399. On Saturday Mr. Ed Koehler did an OUTSTANDING job presenting to a record 60 people at the 2012 forum. This year’s show was about the Eastern Branches of the Long Island Rail Road in the 1970’s and before. Mr. Koehler took us on on a journey back in time to Greenport, Montauk and Port Jefferson, with many interesting stories and history facts about the LIRR. This included G-5s, C-420’s,GP-38s and more. As usual it was held at the Suffolk Country Historic Society in Riverhead, located across the street from the Riverhead LIRR Station. Special thanks goes to the Suffolk County Historical Society, and Mr. Ed Koehler for making this such a successful event. Also thanks goes out to everyone that came out to enjoy the lecture with us! For those interested in the Lionel Visitor's Center Layout, President Fisher has written a "close up" post as we near our April 14th opening about progress this winter. Full articles and photos can as always be seen on the blog at the links below! http://rmlinews.blogspot.com/2012/03/an ... ccess.html http://rmlinews.blogspot.com/2012/03/fr ... gress.html Thank you all so much for your continued support of the Railroad Museum of Long Island as we move toward opening to the public in a few weeks! I'm glad to see it has paint and primer, to boot! Is she lettered yet? |
