This is a very good and positive article! One amendment I would make is this: This is a more extensive overhaul than the locomotive ever had even with the southern. The entirety of the inner firebox sheets are being replaced, the backhead (this was never done prior), major....MAJOR running gear work, modernization with a stoker, etc, etc......

Not quite so, we have found records from 1943, where the 4501 went through an extensive post-wreck rebuild. It was in the shop, IIRC, 4-6 months. This was a high traffic period for the Southern and unless something was just trashed it was overhauled as quickly as needed to get it back on the road. That fact alone, plus some of the write up on that tells of an extensive rebuild.

SR6900,

Since it is "post-wreck", would that not be repair of damage versus a class overhaul as it is getting now?

Is there a hope or beliefe that they will be able to get it straightend out/squared up and quartered properly this time around?
