Thanks for posting this Kelly, totally made my morning. I can just hear the boys in the old O&W shops asking "what would we get if we crossed a Motorcar, a Steam Locomotive, and a Barcalounger?" Mike MacLean New Hope Valley Railway |

A contraption like this would have fit right in with the other machines in the more recent "Wild, Wild West" flick. |

You are not kidding, seat belts really would be a good idea. It is so small and light I bet it stops on a dime. When are you going to build it? |

The Shelburne Museum in Vermont has a similar item, though without the comfy, parlor car-style seating: http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM7N3Z_The_Gertie_Buck_Shelburne_Museum_VT |

I would bet the Disney people (Carl Fallberg, Ward Kimball, Disney himself and others) would have loved such a ride, and that the steam-punk crowd would, too. Looks like it's set up to be controlled from that front bench, with those two levers on the side. I'd have a ball with it, too, but I also have to say I would hate to be running that thing in its higher speed ranges and come across something on the track, like a rock or a cow! |

That is the steam-punkist vehicle I have ever seen, fictional ones included! |

I found this photo of a modern day version a few years ago and don't remember the source. Wesley

To paraphrase an old joke; How do you recognize a happy track inspector? By the bugs in his teeth. Dale |
