Now on the Bluebell

For the coming season, the Bluebell Railway hired BR Standard Class 9F #92212 for use. While the Bluebell is only expecting a 30% increase in traffic over the next year, 99212 was the only engine available. Anywho, here's some links of interest:

Dylan,

I couldn't agree more. The Bluebell is an incredible railway preservation story. What other preservation project has undertaken a civil engineering project on the scale of the excavation of the Imberhorne Tip? They should have track laid through the cut hopefully by the end of the year.

Just a few keystrokes and a second or two on Google can answer most of those questions. Besides that, I thought the Bluebell was known pretty much worldwide. I think it's hostile only because you THINK it's hostile.

Not attempting to be user-hostile, but the Bluebell Railway is well within the "upper echelon" of rail preservation worldwide. As the readers here are typically self-selected individuals knowledgeable about both railways and rail preservation with an emphasis on lines and museums in English-speaking lands, and the original post contained a link to the line's own webpage, I hardly feel the need to emphasize that any more than I feel the need to mention that the B&O Museum is located in Baltimore, the Strasburg RR and EBT are in Pennsylvania, the Cumbres & Toltec is split between Colorado and New Mexico, or that the Lima Locomotive Works was in Ohio instead of Peru......

Peru is in Indiana but I'm pretty sure the Lima you're thinking of was always in Ohio! :-)

Ditto. The Bluebell is well known. Recall it also appears in the Thomas the Tank Engine stories.

The Bluebell Valley Ry. has been in many movies--I think I first saw a reference to it in the credits for Ken Russell's production of The Who's Tommy in 1975. The Bluebell Valley website lists several films in which it "starred" or at least had a "cameo".

You people are assuming that every person who looks at this forum knows where every RR preservation site and activity in the world is and that's not the audience we should be aiming our messages at -- otherwise how do you attract new people who have yet to attain all that knowledge?

Also my definition of user hostile is anything that requires more than one key stroke or requires you to open another window to get basic info. and who doesn't have all the time in the world to do so.
