Elesco Feed Water Heater

Amazing, the stuff that pops up and has survived all these years.

Anyone know of a spare Elesco, AND/OR the mounting brackets to hang it on a boiler front ?

If it need not be functional maybe you can simulate one.

We removed the Elesco bundle from the front of Grand Trunk #6039 at Steamtown during our abatement work there last year to apply a new jacket. I have quite a few photos of the removed heater and the brackets from which you should be able to make up a cosmetic representation.

Also - In the "Ones that got Away" department. In the 1980's at the C&O shops in Peru, Indiana there was an Elesco feedwater heater mounted on a cart and used for steam cleaning of diesels. It was down the ramp under the diesel dock . . . . . and not close to a door . . . . . . . . . and too heavy to pull up out of there . . . . . . and too heavy to load . . . . . . . . . and it was lost.
I wish I would have tried a lot harder to "preserve" that artifact!

There was apparently other stuff lost from Peru, from what members of HVRM have told me, including some standpipes. Wish we had just one we could install at North Judson to "pose" Kanawha 2789 with; which was one thing that WAS saved from Peru.

Les; Ohio Central was able to acquite many C&O standpipes. Maybe they have an extra that could help complete your display. Also; there was one successful artifact preservation from those Peru Shops - the famous "Peru Pump"! A fine 8-1/2"-120 cross compound that now serves on the Soo Line #1003.
