The ALCO Historical & Technical Society will be having our first cleaning day of 2012 at the ALCO Heritage Museum, 1910 Maxon Rd. Schenectady, NY, this Saturday 4/14 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm (or later). Activities include much cleaning in preparation for our planned Grand Opening on June 10th. Our plans are to have work sessions every Saturday until the opening. Items that need to be addressed include cleaning/preparing the M47 tank, the "759" 1941 built parade vehicle, the FA1 cab, and cleaning/assembling display cases. Future work sessions will include building walls, painting, landscaping, outdoor cleaning, hanging signs/banners etc. This is a good opportunity to see our progress to date and to take part in the process of seeing this project come to fruition. We can't do it without the generosity of or supporters. If you come, come prepared with brooms, buckets, sponges, paper towles, gloves, as well as other cleaning supplies. Whatever you can. ALCO Heritage Museum recieves $10,000 donation from Carhartt.

To honor it's long relationship with railroading and to celabrate the opening of it's newest retail store in Albany, NY, Carhartt has donated $10,000 to the ALCO Heritage Museum. The event took place on May, 4th at Crossgates Mall. The Museum is scheduled to open June 10th.

On behalf of all of us here at the ALCO Historical & Technical Society we would like to thank Carhartt for their generosity and look forward to a good relationship in the future.

May I ask what the $10,000 will be used for? I know of a certain one-of-a-kind ALCO sitting on the WNY&P...

The money will most likely be used to help finish building out displays and other items to get ready for our grand opening. We have several locomotive prospects in the works, but our first priority is to get the museum up and running. Once that happens we can work on bringing more to the site (June 11th projects as we have come to call them). With the costs of transportation escalating and Class I's becoming picky about what they will move, we need to make decisions where to best spend our money. The $10,000 won't even get our RS3 to the Museum, let alone paint it. It will however esure that we can put together professional displays inside. One foot infront of the other.

Just a reminder that the Grand Opening of the ALCO Heritage Museum is this Sunday, 6/10 from 1pm to 5pm. Admission is free for the day. We just added a last minute artifact from our friends at the Delaware-Lackawanna railroad (before you get overly excited it fit on a truck). Also visiting for the big event will be the 1909 built ALCO race car, the "Black Beast". Hope to see you there (I'll be the guy working).

My thanks go out to all who attended our grand opening on Sunday. The day could not have gone better with a full parking lot and packed house all day! This could not have been accomplished without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. To them I am forever great full. For all those who missed the big event, we are now open to the public on Saturday's and Sunday's from 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. And remember, this is just the beginning! Let's keep the momentum rolling.
