When this was last an active subject, the fate of West Penn Railways center door car 728 was not yet decided. That chapter can now be closed.

A professional in the field of museum rolling stock trucking had inspected 728 and then declined to get involved in moving it, feeling it was structurally unsound.

When a local purchaser in the Uniontown area tried to move the car later in 2011 (exact date is not known) the carbody did indeed collapse. The car was then scrapped. Unfortunately no museum was notified at the time and little was salvaged.

The final result of Mr. Mitchell's collection is that PTC sweeper C127 was the only car saved, having been purchased by Electric City Trolley Museum. Everything else was scrapped at the site.

While an unfortunate outcome, it illustrates the difficulty faced when an individual takes on a greater challenge than that of which they are capable. Ed was a personable and generous man with vast knowledge of the West Penn system. He was always gracious to visitors and a delight with whom to discuss West Penn trivia.

It takes -groupage-, but his effort is certainly phenomenal and worth noting.
