From Trains Newswire (subscriber paywall), as reported by a fellow RyPN denizen: The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad and Museum, which operates 1.5 miles of track along Casco Bay in Portland, will move to Gray, about 15 miles north of the city, museum President Jerry Angier said. |

There is still some open R.O.W. in Gray, and until two decades ago, a few artifact structures of which I can recall. This is a better location for tourism, in my opinion. Interesting tid-bit. |

Here's a link to a local newspaper report on the matter at hand: http://www.theforecaster.net/news/print ... own/121652 |

I wish them the best in getting all the money to do it. IMHO they're going to need a lot more than 3 mil to do the move, seeing as there is nothing there in Gray for them to go to. |

Seven years later, the news from MNGRM is "We will stay in Portland." The move to Gray, Maine has been cancelled. https://www.pressherald.com/2019/08/06/narrow-gauge-railroad-staying-in-portland/ |

But I am glad that they will remain in a high-visibility location. |

That spot in Portland is really good for visibility and reaching people who otherwise might not be interested. |

Good news! Their ridership would have suffered had they moved away from the waterfront in Portland. Glad the city is trying to accommodate their desire for storage & ticketing. The co-operative effort with the WW&F museum appears to be a win-win for both organizations. |

Having visited Portland (lovely town!) I always thought it was odd for a museum to want to move out of a prime downtown location. Glad they are staying. |

It is the Portland Company buildings that they had to leave because they are getting re-developed. It is too bad that the new owner does not want to provide indoor space for the museum cars. Ted Miles, WW&F Member |

It's been some months since this news was posted, but apparently the Town of Gray was not very pleased with surprising news about the change in the MNG relocation decision: https://www.pressherald.com/2019/08/14/narrow-gauge-decision-a-surprise-to-gray/ However, as the original plan of MNG was to get a lot of local Gray support in the form of a tax initiative (that later failed), this turn of events probably should not be too surprising. I'm glad that the recent outcome of a partnership with WW&F is happening for preserving the equipment of MNG that needed to vacate Portland, while MNG figures out what they will be doing in the longer term. |

Current plans of the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad & Museum is to build a new Depot on the Portland waterfront, and a storage facility at the other end of their track. See this article published November 11th for more: https://www.pressherald.com/2019/11/11/ ... buildings/ I saw that there were at least two issues of full color fundraising "ads" on the back cover of recent Trains magazines. Link to the Museum's page with renderings of the proposed buildings: https://mainenarrowgauge.org/funding-the-future/ |
