Is there any successor to the National Pneumatic line of door controls? Looking for replacement parts - specifically the magnet valve (or the coil itself) for a 64 volt door opener. |

Is it a standard coil for a solenoid? If so you could get one in a lower voltage and add the correct dropping resistor... http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/solenoid-coils/valves/pneumatics/ecatalog/N-aiq?Ndr=basedimid10071&sst=subset Also look under their hydraulic valve coils...and look elsewhere too i can help you select and source a resistor to make a lower voltage coil work. |

I *think* (and I am a bit rusty on this info) that at some point Vapor bought out National Pneumatic and then some years ago Vapor became a WABTEC Company. It's a long shot, but you might try finding "the old guy who's been here for years" at Vapor and see if they would be of any help. I don't know if those DL&W diners had sliding pocket doors or air operated swinging doors, but the old pocket doors on the 1940's and 1950's lightweight cars are similar to what is still in use on Amfleet and Superliner cars, so some parts may still be available. |

Topfuel -- thanks, it's worth a try. By the way, this is for 'City of Lima', which has sliding pocket doors on the carbody ends. |

You can manually rewind the coil using varnished copper wire if a replacement can't be found. dave |

Vapor is now a Wabtec company. [url] http://wabtec.com/subsidiaries/default.asp[/url] There are two divisions. The bus division http://vapordoors.com/index.htmlwhich handles pneumatic doors and similar hardware, and is probably where replacement coils would come from. (Note the modern door engine on their home page - to me it suggests a National Pneumatic ancestry.) The rail division is in Plattsburgh, NY. http://wabtec.com/subsidiaries/locations.asp?id=66 They handle the electric door operators. |
