I am interested in learning more about industrial switching operations in the Conshohocken area. I remember seeing an old SW switcher from the turnpike lettered for the Upper Merion & Plymouth. Can anybody lead me in the right direction of where you can safely railfan this operation, when they run, where they pick up cars, etc. Are they a seven day a week operation with full time crews? Thank you!

Not to sound disrespectful, but because the UM&P is not involved with rail preservation directly (there used to be 2-3 "project" diesels stored on the line), you would be better off checking a forum such as Railroad.net. It has a Pennsylvania forum:

Sandy is correct. Railfan/trainwatching stuff is covered in great detail in other places on the web. The Interchange is for preservation related topics only.

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

Railroad Buff, thank you for the info.

Sandy, I apologize. A valid critique. Allow me to re-direct. Has anyone done a book or even a magazine article on the prior history of this operation? I often feel like smaller industrial pikes are often overlooked because they lack the glitz and glamor of the high iron. I guess what I'm saying is I am looking for the total picture past and present. Hope that brings this thread back on track.
