Several years ago, there was a very informative thread on RYPN regarding surviving L&N center door "Jim Crow" combines. From it, I distilled that there were several suriviors.

-L&N 665 at KRM in New Haven, KY, in poor condition.
-Glasgow Railroad #109 now owned by the group in Bowling Green, KY in very poor shape
-L&N 676, in Alberta, CA, privately owned, reputed to be in good shape.
_L&N ? Onwed by the Jacksonville Chapter of the NRHS, reputed to be in poor shape by 1975, and may have been scrapped.

and finally, it was reported that the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society, the Santa Fe 3751 folks, have a L&N Jim Crow Combine.

Does anyone have any information and photos of the car owned by the SBRHS? Does anyone know if the car's number and current condition? Also, how did the car end up in CA?

David -

I seem to recall hearing that the guys at the Campo Railroad Museum (Pacific Southwest Railway Museum Association) in Campo, California, recently restored a Jim Crow combine. I don't know whether this is the car you are inquiring about or not. Maybe someone from that organization will comment.

Les,

I assume you mean this:

http://www.sdrm.org/roster/passenger/combine3/index.html

which is not the car I am looking for.

The older RYPN thread I linked to indicates that the car I am asking about is a former L&N car, owned by SBRHS, not PSRM, and is a center door Jim Crow combine.

David,
The Alberta, Canada car was listed for sale for many years on Ozark Mountain Railcar under their historic passenger car subcategory. I believe, though I don't have time to look it up now, that the car was finally sold and has been moved. Hopefully, someone with the knowledge can chime in here.

Stephen,

Thanks for the update, interesting cars, always trying to "keep track" of them.

No one around Jacksonville can not be found anymore. It was possibly scrapped sometime after 1975. That was when the Jacksonville Chapter of the NRHS was disbanded. What I was able to find out is there was a disagreement between the Jacksonville Chapter and the Chessie System. After that the chapter was disbanded and the disposition of their equipment is unknown. The North Florida Chapter is a total different group of people. Does anyone have any other information on the fate of that L&N Jim Crow?
