Gents - I'm looking for a repairable smallish HFT boiler about the size of one that could have been used in a largish traction engine /sawmill / temporary application, in the vicinity of 36" diemeter, 11 feet long, 7 feet between tube sheets. A private individual wishes to build a replica of a small Dewey Brothers lokie, and this would be for that application. Any information about a workable and available boiler welcome.

Might be a good place to ask as well. They do a lot with live steam over there, and that sounds closer to what you're looking for (granted your live steam seems to be a bit larger)

Thanks - their steam classified section seems to be entirely the very narrow gage stuff one would expect. I also have checked Smokestak classifieds to no avail.

I think this one is going to have to be a networking thing........

is crown still around?

there are still the live steam manufactures out there, perhaps they can custom one.
but one company will make new small locos full size.

Yes, I can contact more than one new boiler builder....but this is a small project for a private individual with limited resources that will see occasional use only and an old boiler that can be repaired and have some life left in it is perfectly adequate - providing we can find one. I'm helping an old friend out here, it isn't a commercial project. So, can you actually provide information relative to the question I actually asked?

Crown sold the air brake business the Abackshop Enterprises, and Tweetsie is now supporting the park engines and equipment. I think Bert is now retired.

Some years ago Bernie Watts at Backshop had a smallish boiler that he bought with the plan to repair and set up for use as a shop boiler. I have no idea if he still has it, what condition it is in, or if he would be interested in selling it. It is a lead to follow though and he might be able to give you some other leads as well.

Thanks Russ - haven't talked to Bernie in a few years, I'll drop him a line.

For now I can only think of leads that may get you leads.
like being a trolley modeler you have the Vane Jones -scrounge- rule.

House of David in Benton Harbor recently got their park train running, I just wonder if an engine boiler is hanging around.

La Porte County Steam Railroad in Hesston, IN with its dual 2-3 foot gauge has a live steam 1-1/2 inch gauge loop as well as a 15 inch gauge loop operating steam.
every so often they have a live steam meet this group may have plenty of leads to steer you on.
