Not in the same league with the demolition of New York's Penn Station, or even the destruction of Mt. Lowe relics in Southern California, but still a "low blow" to believers in historic preservation. Ideally, the guilty parties (assuming they can be identified) should be required to build a replica. It's not the same as saving the original, but it's the best outcome. (I'm thinking of some of the California Missions, the Sacramento Northern depot in Woodland, Calif., and the Stax recording studio building in Memphis, where what you see today had to be built from scratch.)
