Post subject: Now arriving on track number one...
PostPosted: Tue Jun 18, 2002 9:59 pm

Our ex-PRR GP30 No. 2233 arrived back at Strasburg today after a cosmetic restoration into Conrail colors at Norfolk Southern's Hollidaysburg car shops. She was delivered to the Museum gate this afternoon at about 2 pm by Strasburg's 44-tonner No. 33. Our chosen era is Conrail blue and white, circa 1976. We thought it appropriate to interpret Conrail since it too is now an "historic" road that once operated in Pennsylvania.

Other news from the Museum Restoration Shop: After a lengthy restoration that began in 1994, our c.1890s C&PA snowplow is now finished and will be placed on track 4 inside Rolling Stock Hall shortly. Other vehicular exhibits will be rearranged this week. PRR E6 No. 460 was removed from RSH this spring and is now stored in the abatement shed in the Yard awaiting a complete cosmetic restoration. The Museum's ex-PRR air brake instruction car is also awaiting work soon, as well as the CVRR gallery car. Stay tuned!

Are any of the museum's diesel locomotives operational? Is all yard switching provied by SRR?

Okay, I checked the date.

Ain't April 1st.

Would somebody kindly provide a picture just to prove it?

Sandy, what are you going to say when someone restores a loco as PENN CENTRAL ?? It's still railroad history (although some of us would like to think it was all a bad dream.....).

NS had an ocean of surplus blue paint (can't exactly dump it in the Juniata), so my understanding is that the museum got a great price.

Someone already did: the GG1 at the National New York Central Museum in Elkhart, Indiana.

Hey! I've got an idea! Since NS has a surplus of
Conrail Blue, why not send GG1 4800 out there and
have it painted that way. After all, it was painted CR blue at one time! I humbly suggest that truly Conrail engines(delivered to CR itself) be preserved that way

Okay, I checked the date.

Dan is right. The local switcher around my area, and ex-Reading SW1001 was freshly shopped, and emerged in it's Conrail colors. Unfortunatly, two days after it re-entered service, some kids got into the engine while it was stored overnight at a near by yard, released the brake, and sent it rolling into some other equipment damaging the pilot.

Wow!!!!

I am impressed by this decision. It's nice that you guys chose a locomotive from the "Red Team" to have repainted into CR blue.

Conrail's demise ended on 150 year-old tradition of major railroads being headquartered in the Keystone State.

Keep the relationship with NS good, as one of those Juniata-assembled, CR blue, standard cab SD-70's will make a stunning display next to the 4-8-2 one day.

It's happened. The National New York Central Museum in Elkhart, IN painted their GG1 #4882 in PC colors.
