I don't recall if we there was a thread about this recently, but seeing the NYS&W F45 at Utica, NY while passing by on Amtrak made me curious as to how many F45's are left. The 6 preserved FP45's from the Santa Fe are already noted, and we know that unfortunately, none of the Milwaukee Road FP45's are still around, so the FP45 preservation roster is easy. Regarding the F45, other than the Santa Fe F45 unit that was painted GN Big Sky Blue, how many other are still around? |

The surviving NYSW F45 you refer to is #3636. I've found pics of MRL F45's #390 and #392 in storage at Livingston, MT in September 2010-- does anyone know if they're still there? WC 6654 and 6655 are reported to still be derelict at LTEX in Ohio as of March of this year. |

NYSW "Boom Box" 3636 I believe was the last F45 in revenue service. Unconfirmed reports indicate she may be scrapped soon. Joshua |

Joshua That is the info I have too, she was stripped of parts to keep the two SD45s still going. I know 3636 was out of service for awhile, then placed back in service for a year or so, and then was stored in Utica. I don't know why they made that decision, or what may have been wrong with 3636, but the Susquehanna seems to be power short for some time as they have several leased units active on thier line. |

I was told recently that NYS&W F45 3636 will not be scrapped, and that it was being held for preservation. Let's hope that that is indeed the case....not sure where it might end up... |

It was my understanding that the main generator went kaput. This was only a year or so after the engine had gone through a major rebuilding. The scrapping of NYSW 3636 commenced yesterday in Utica, NY and is reported to be half gone already. Anyone know the plans for the MRL F45 that was given a reprieve? Joshua |

Railfan & Railroad reports that the Dieselmotive Company (reporting mark: BUGX) has purchased former AT&SF 5989 from Wabtec with the intent to restore it to its SPSF Kodachrome paint scheme and to bring it to a museum. https://railfan.com/f45-will-be-restore ... cV33Slw6jc If the plan comes to fruition, it will be the first F45 locomotive to be preserved. Background on the history of Santa Fe's F45s can be found here: http://atsf.railfan.net/cowls/f45.html Former AT&SF 5960 has been converted to a bed & breakfast room at the Izaak Walton Inn in Essex, MT and painted as Great Northern 441. The only other F45 presently confirmed to exist is former MRL 390, built in April, 1974 as BN 6644. This unit later served on the NYSW as 3638 before its purchase by MRL. Google Earth satellite images show that this unit is stored at Western Rail Inc. 11610 W McFarlane Rd, Airway Heights, WA 99001. |
