The Lithgow Zig Zag is a marvelous example of Victorian engineering. A must-see for any rail fan who finds themselves in the land of Oz. It would be a shame if the railway has to close.

I wouldn't call the scrapper yet......efforts under way to resolve whatever the difficulties might be. There have been published more than one explaination for the shut down.

Zig Zag is sort of the Australian equivalent of Georgetown Loop - located in a mountain resort area, on highly traveled arteries fairly close to a major urban center. The ride is long enough but short enough to provide a very meaningful and scenic experience, without costing a tourist a whole day or becoming a survival trip.

I hope cool heads will prevail, reasonable partnerships will be quickly formed with a consortium of stakeholders, and actions taken to reopen soon.

I certainly hope they can manage to keep the railway operating. They have a wonderful and historic site, and name recognition around the world. This line deserves to be preserved.

Nope. You can google as well as I can, very likely better. I'd characterize it as a list of the usual suspects, but with a more robust community accountability response than you'd find up over.

The Zig Zag has got to be one of the most famous steam operations in Australia!

If them ... who else. This is definitely a situation to watch and learn from.
