A friend who is working with the Canada Science & Technology Museum mentioned that they have an uncatalogued collection of hundreds of MacIntosh & Seymour engineering drawings for diesel engines.

Many of those should cover the 539 engine as used in Alco and MLW's s series switchers, RS-1, and others.

He has asked for a show of hands to gauge the level of interest for getting these drawings catalogued, so they are accessible to Alco/ MLW owners and researchers.

I know I can speak for RMEO, as being very interested, to support our
MLW S-3, CPR # 6591.

PLEASE- if interested, reply to this post. The museum doesn't have enough staff to reply to dozens of e-mail inquiries about an uncatalogued collection. Please don't e-mail them directly... be considerate.

If interested, please speak up here- I will have him monitor the thread to gauge interest.

Thanks, all!

No question: I am interested.

Might it be possible that some of these may be of the predecessor engine to the 539 (I don't remember the model number) which I have never seen actual drawings of?

Certainly won't know until everything is catalogued! I'll put my hand up to use the catalogue and perhaps order copies when done...

Mid-Continent has a M&S 539 in our S-1. While I'm not the diesel foreman, I can't believe we would not have some interest in any information we can get. Thanks for corralling the calls.....mld

Here at the BSOR we have a fleet of 5 539's and one 538 on the property. We are definitely interested in having such drawings cataloged. As certain parts on this engine become harder to find, it would be helpful to have drawings to have new ones fabricated. Count us in.
