As reported on their Facebook site, the fine people working on Santa fe 4-8-4 2926 discovered that theives have stolen cab supports and the driver brake slack adjustors from the restoration site. Please keep your eyes open. "We had a break in last night. Several items of critical importance were taken. The items are several cast cab support brackets, the bracketry that holds the throttle to the backhead, and a couple of the driver brake slack adjusters. We need everyone in the Albuquerque area to keep their eyes peeled for these items!"

Got to feel like a stab in the back. That engine is really close to perfect shape, and what is anybody going to do with such items? Notify the junk yards, asap. |

All the local scrapyards have apparently been advised with pictures, also they are monitoring other websites to see if they suddenly pop up as "available" |

Can't imagine someone else needing those parts. If it was indeed stolen, would think the thieves were very stupid as there must of been better more valuable things to steal like tools or bronze goodies? If they were so stupid as to steal a few chunks of steel to sell for money they are stupid enough to come back again. Hope the dips get caught and taught a lesson in choices and consequences. Good luck in all things. Cheers, John. |

Let me guess. These items were sitting out in an area where they were easily able to be loaded up. Crackheads got them for the scrap value no doubt. I had a similar incident happen to me years ago. I was fortunate to get most of the parts back, but a few things were lost and will have to be replaced. |

Stolen for their scrap value, no doubt. It's becoming more and more common. I'm a security officer by night and we're getting more and more accounts with companies that have metal equipment and supplies, because thieves are taking anything metal they can get into a truck. |

Not going to reveal details because I'm not an authorized spokesman, but I was recently chagrined to learn that the entire front pilot of a piece under restoration (locomotive, car, trolley, etc.) was stolen one night from a rail museum/facility in my region. Not just a few pieces of metal and wood, but a large, snowplow-sized item that would have required at least three people to pick up. The worst part was they they had loads of more "worthless" scrap to help themselves to, but instead they took the one piece that was basically impossible to replace, and will have to be replicated (if possible) from scratch. |

Actually, as the NMSLRHS FB page moderator, I can tell you that they cut a fence and were seen on video. I just posted a link to the video of the individuals on our FB page. It is also on our website. Feel free to take a look... The video has been forwarded to the local authorities. |

You need to be putting your OWN eyes on scrap yards. I guarantee you the one they are hauling this stuff to tossed your pic in the trash and will NOT call you even if they see it. Doesn't take much, haul a few bits of junk into the yard just so you can drive through and eye the pile. Plenty of crackheads come into those yards with a handful of junk in the truck to sell for just a couple dollars. The only other way might be to send out the info again and post a SIGNIFICANT reward and no-questions-asked. Your parts may be valuable enough to justify that. In the end what they took is gonna earn them a slap on the hand and you'll practically get charged with annoying the cops with petty BS. Your parts are probably worth too little by the pound to bring any real charges, and the cops tend to treat them as petty theft. Good luck, what was worth a few bucks to them is gonna cost thousands if not 10's of K to replace.... Robert |

There is NO lower form of life than the scrap monger, unless, of course, it is the professional politician. They can pass all the ID laws they want-crackhead scrap theives will still steal metal, and the scrapyards will still buy it. |
