It's not everyday you see an intact roundhouse, turntable and backshop, waiting for the railroad museum to show up and begin operations. http://www.flickr.com/photos/60790501@N04/7306770060 ![]() |

VIA was the last user, they used to lock their Budd cars inside at night. About 12 years ago Ross Rowland's used the yard to the right (but not the roundhouse itself) to stage his Pacific Wilderness Railway train which, had it been successful was to have used steam traction with talk of Chinese locos being put to work. Today the roundhouse sits in an emerging high end residential area. Even if the PWR had lasted, I can't imagine the neighbors tolerating steam locos. One passenger coach from the PWR train still remains in the Victoria area. It was moved to and restored at the Sannich Historical Artifacts site on highway 17 near the airport. |

hey its a CPR roundhouse.. once Toronto Hydro gets their way with the John Street Roundhouse, perhaps the TRHA could consider a new home.... TRHA... VRHA... sounds close enough to me... Of course, by the time they get there, half will be a brewery, the other half a furniture store, and Victoria hydro will mysteriously find its self in owner ship of the turntable pit... |

This is what it looked like in 1982, August. Those RDC's are preparing to give me a roundtrip excursion.

Nope. Satellite photo shows the ground is clean of all support structures. Seems like when I was there in 1982 it was industrial area. Something different. Look to the east and there is what appears to be a boat turntable. I have never seen something like that before! |
