The following was posted to Trainrders.com tonight:

Quote:
The Minnesota Zephyr dinner train is getting out of town (Stillwater, MN)
by truck. Destination is Bayport trackage at Anderson Window Company.
This is private secure track. No track exists between Stillwater and Bayport
about 4 miles. Removed years ago by BN.

At Stillwater today I noticed one F7 on the ground and the second F7 on a
multi-axle heavy haul trailer. The driver was detaching tractor from trailer
and leaving for Alabama......stranding the F7.
I pieced together the following from the driver:

Moving six cars and two locomotives is taking longer than expected. Nine days (and more to add)
instead of the planned 5 days. The general contractor left when he was not advanced more
money. The crane company vacated when his costs increased and no more money. Same for
heavy haul contractor from Alabama.

First F7 loaded out too heavy for trailer and grounded w/o trucks in parking lot. This
driver and trailer also returned to Alabama.

Two F7 engines lost without track and no way to get some.

Sounds like the Zephyr's owner tried to play it cheap ... and lost.

Too bad about those F-units.

I don't know, but it seems to me like the contractors gave a quote to owner, and found it's more work than they imagined. So they ask for more, and owner says something to the effect of, "You gave me a price, stick to your price."
I see a lawsuit coming.
