| Post subject: | Wooden baggage car headed south through Mass? |
Today it was reported that a "wooden, monitor-roof, passenger-train car. No windows, a people door at one end and a bag door at the opposite end" passed through Shelburne Falls, on Rt 112 southbound. This was reported by a reliable source, although during "cocktail hour" (gives away the age of the source I suspect). What was it? |

A second New Haven wood bagg from Saybrook--- RMNE gifted it to Berkshire Scenic in Lenox, Mass. It will be re-railed on Friday morning. Howard P. |

This is RMNE's NH 3844 as it left Saybrook Yard on Silk Road's truck, Tuesday morning at 9:15 am---- Attachment: NH wood bagg small DSC_3454.JPG [ 73.67 KiB | Viewed 3353 times ] The BSRM car is from the same series; it is NH 3884 and has composite trucks. NH 3844 was built by Osgood Bradley in Oct 1903 as NH 3068 and was rebuilt by NH at Readville, Mass in June 1927 with a steel underframe and all-steel trucks. It was last used as work train car W-305. NH 3884 was built by the NH's New Haven, Conn shops in May 1896 as NH 1553. It was rebuilt at Readville in March 1929 with the steel underframe and kept the original composite trucks. It was W-298 in its last years on the New Haven. Howard P. |
