While I'm here on vacation, I'm going to try and track down the Allied Chemical tank here in town. According to steam locomotive info, the engine is located at the Hawaiian Golf Village. Can anyone help me with an exact location? I'm having some difficulty on locating it with google maps at the moment. The pic of the engine is by John Gramling, so if one of the Gramlings could chime in, I'd appreciate it. Link to the engine's profile below;

Thanks wesp. I rad that last sentence, and it slightly disturbs me to think "colorful". What sort of modifications are we talking about? I'll go try to find the engine later today. I'll make sure that a picture of the engine in its current guise also reaches Doug over at steam locomotive info.

Then something doesn't add up. I just managed to find the course on google maps, and it appears there is indeed an engine on display, albeit painted a ugly purple and gold. A different engine maybe?

Hoping I did this right. Link to the map. Definitely a steamer, but REALLY "messed up" by whoever painted it. I can take fake diamond stacks and cowcatchers, but that paint goes a bit into the ghastly realm. No sense of unity in the colors...

Street view shows the engine in better detail. It looks like the Allied engine, but minus the tank, so I can't be certain it is the same engine.

A different engine? Maybe you're right. Take a look at John Gramling's photo of the little red-painted 0-4-0T. Is that perhaps ANOTHER engine just behind it? Looks like the same type sandbox atop another saddletank! Maybe a sister engine? Or am I just seeing things?

I see it now Les. I can't tell if the builder's plate is still there from the street view... When we stop I'll ask about that engine in the background. Call me crazy, but I don't think that thing behind it is a pile of spare parts...

I managed to stop by the engine and grab a quick picture. However, the hotel internet seems to be non-cooperative for uploading a photo. I would describe the engine to be in good shape, no visible rust or cosmetic damage. It also appears that the cab fittings are still in place. I didn't have time to get a better look, but it could be possible that the cab fittings are of convincing replication. Mini golf is on the agenda for the vacation some time this week, so I can try and get more pictures later this week if we stop at the Hawaiian Village for the mini golf. That department is out of my control however, so I can't make any guarantees. I also get a nagging feeling that the shot I have is slightly out of focus....

It's hard to tell if it's the same engine. The Cab and coal bunker look the same in both photos, in Johns photo, its missing its front steps and or footboard and after zooming in on the street view it seems like a knock off cow-catcher that was custom made. I'm in no way positive but I think it could be the same engine, justs leaves the question what happened to the saddle tanks?

Mystery solved!! i looked on steam locomotive.infos page, went to browse pennsylvania steamers and went to Manns Choice, where John Gramling said the engine was moved. There was like 4 of them at Manns Choice and here is the note that the owner posted: Posted: 2003-08-05 23:02:36.153 by Steve Hall
These three engines weigh 24.5tons each. I had them weighed before I moved them to PA. The real Engine #49 is restored (cosmetically) and sitting in a private yard in Bedford, PA. Engine #61 is now cosmetaclly restored and re-numbered to #49. It is on display down at: Sutter's Mill Golf Mine,(Miniture golf course) North Myrtle Beach,SC. The last engine #45 went to a museum in Phil to be restored for display. Steve Hall

I managed to get my picture uploaded to my photography page on facebook. I apologize that the shot is slightly out of focus. It is the first one in my wall photos album, but it's hard to miss something that colorful.... Wonder how that roof holds up in the weather ;)

I would venture to guess that the saddle tanks were removed to make it look more like a "standard" or typical steam engine to most people.
