Could someone be so kind as to tell me what type of trade deal the Niles canyon Railway did with the Western Pacific Railroad museum to part with 0-6-0 #165? The only thing I remember is UP 737 going to the Double T agricultural museum, not sure if that had anything to do with #165. What did the Niles Canyon recieve in return for parting with #165?

If I remember correctly, the WP 165 at the time was owned by the Double T and being stored by PLA. The trade was for the UP 4-4-0, since the people in Turlock preferred something older than the 0-6-0. That's how I heard it anyway.

I'm pretty sure that is false, because i knew for a fact that Alameda county donated it to the PLA (niles canyon) and they hoped to restore it to operation. Obviously it didn't pan out but still wonder how it was traded. The Western Pacific Railroad museum owned #737.

I believe I'd think twice before contradicting the collections manager (and head of the 165 restoration) at WPRR Museum.

When asking for information pertaining to a subject you are not well-versed in, completely rebuffing information someone knowledgeable has given to you because it doesn't align with what you "heard" or "knew" makes you look rather foolish. My .02.

The 165 was donated to the PLA by the city of Pleasanton. We did not really want it but they threatened to scrap it on site so we spent several thousand dollars getting it out from where it was and transporting it to Brightside. It was then sold to Double T who then traded it to WPRM. WPRM allowed us to use their heavy haul flat car to retrieve our Alco S6 from Foster Farms in Burrel. When the Alco arrived at Brightside, it was unloaded and the 165 immediately loaded onto the car. I do not know of any interest on our part of restoring it to service.

Wasn't there a SECOND Western Pacific 0-6-0 preserved? Maybe a sister of the 165? Or do I have that wrong? Anyway, glad progress is being made on the restoration of the 165 to running condition. I think that there is a nice representation of WP steam still in existance (Ten-Wheeler 94, Consolidation 26, Mikado 334, 0-6-0 165).

Gee whiz, doesn't anyone use steamlocomotive.com??? According to that fine website, WP #164 is displayed at Hewitt Park in Oroville, CA. They've even got a photo of it there.
