So, found out I may have to be in Dunkirk, NY tomorrow for work. Other than the Alco-Brooks 0-6-0 on display at the fairgrounds, is there anything left of the old Brooks plant? Any ideas as to its location? Photo reconnaissance shows a large industrial complex just off of Brigham Road, south of some RR tracks. The layout of the buildings looks like it may have been built for a RR purpose. Obviously, I do not wish to trespass, but wanted to know if there was some other info. |

The Chautaqua County Fairgrounds are the site of the Brooks plant, I believe an exhibit hall is an old warehouse, but not much remains of the site. Dunkirk is also where Scott Symans keeps his three traveling steam locomotives (Viscose #6 is the only one currently operating), but they are not available for public viewing. |

Check out that one image of the Brooks erecting shop, and notice the two guys standing on the running boards of the locomotive hanging from the crane... |

for 1890 that looks like a very modern shop. consider the Pullman Plant near me built with wooden cross members, which was its undoing in the fire while it was under refurbishing. |
