Purloined from Facebook:

Quote:
Just a few months after DL&W Diner 469 returned home to Scranton, our other two dining cars, Erie Lackawanna 741 and Erie Lackawanna 770, are now on their way home Diners 741 and 770 departed Kansas City, MO on the afternoon of July 9, 2012. The cars rode on the rear of Norfolk Southern train 278 to Decatur, IL, where they are currently spending the night. The cars are scheduled to depart Decatur on NS 18K on Tuesday night, headed for Elkhart, IN. From Elkhart, the cars are scheduled for NS 16N to Allentown, PA via Toledo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Altoona and Harrisburg. Delivery to the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad in Portland, PA is scheduled for July 14. The DL will then deliver the cars to our Maple Grove worksite in Scranton.

So they've got 3 coaches, a sleeper, and 3 diners. They just need to convince Metro North to give up one of the Tavern Lounge cars, and they'll have an awesome consist.

I would suggest that everything we've seen so far is building up to demonstrating the ELDCPS as a worthy, responsible, active, "can-do" organization worthy of being offered "first refusal" or option on the cars at a future date.

There is no assurance that Metro-North is permitted to donate one (or both!) cars to such an organization, or sell it/them for $1 each or scrap value, but if responsible stewardship is demonstrated for a period of time.......

(You know, this applies to everyone out there.)

Both diners have arrived in Scranton. When was the last time three EL diners were in Scranton at the same time?

What happened to EL diner 747 that was on the New Hope & Ivyland back in the early 70's?

Diner 747 is on disconnected track, serving out the autumn of her years as an engineering office. Through the courtesy of her owners, Diner 747 has been an "organ donor" for various essential components necessary to make Diner 741 operational.

There don't seem to be any pictures of the 746 online. As for the 747 a quick Google search came up with only one that shows much of anything:

The photo seems to be showing the parts harvesting done in support of ELDCPS 741.
