First time since 1968 that the Train of the Goddesses will be carrying passengers on the Q mainline!

That is INCREDIBLE news. I had my first trip to IRM last week and rode the Nebraska Zephyr. I just found it hard to believe that I was onboard a 75 year old train. While the seats were a little tired, it looked and rode terrific. Congratulations on making this happen and raising additional funds.

This is great news. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see the YouTube videos.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see a ticket price. Any idea on cost?

If you have to ask...

(I'm not going to ask, conflicts with another event for me anyway, but I wish them much success.)

The announcement says the diner will be open. Anyone know what the menu will be?

The schedule for these trips unfortunately precludes the use of Amtrak service for potential downstate customers to ride up to Chicago as the City of New Orleans is scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 9:00 AM (the trip departure time) and depart at 8 PM (trip is scheduled to return to Chicago at 7:00 PM). This would require a drive and parking for the trip not to mention a possible need to overnight.

lol, good point. It is after all only a 5 car train. Maybe I'll just watch it go through Highlands or something.

Having a decent exposure to railfandom in general, and the ever present cynacism which comes with the foam, I'm sure there are some for whom a serving of crow is appropriate.

Would love to be on that train.

While talking about Zephyrs, does any one know the current status of the Mark Twain Zephyr? Is it still in Madison?

What happened to Train of the Gods? Was it scrapped?

I believe the Mark Twain Zephyr is still over in Madison, IL.

The Train of the Gods, spent part of its post-Burlington career at Denver Union Station, and eventually made its way to Saudi Arabia. I think it is still there today.

If the guys at the CBQ group have it right you can see the Train of the Gods on Google Earth here…
26.183035,49.985189 or just SW of that point.
I think I can see a six car consist measuring 427 feet with a noticeable bulge at the end. Red tail light housing?
At retirement both NZs had five cars and one E-5.

So today is the 27th. Anybody know what ticket prices are yet? I'm looking here for them. Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

I'm thinking about making the trip to Chicago for this one. Should be an unforgettable experience.
