I know where it is but am interested in its history.

The original atop White River Junction, Vt's CV/B&M station was a brass 4-6-2, as I recall, and it was stolen sometime back in the late 1970s or early 1980s, if memory serves me correctly. This photo is of a more modern replacement mounted some years later. I'm fairly certain whoever stole the original must still be waiting for the heat to die down, as it was considered one of the most well-known and collectible weather vanes in the nation at the time of its theft.

You nailed it Alexander. Thanks for the added info. It's quite large. Which brings up the question of how do you steal a weathervane? A midnight cherry picker?

According to one account I read while researching to double-check my memory, the thieves left the ladders behind on the roof. And towns in Vermont tend to be pretty quiet at night.....
