Here is a link to a photo of NP 328 at the head of an MTM steam excursion in 1985: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=2460543 I can see no coal in her tender and a tank car between her and the CNW geep providing HEP power on this special run to Shakopee, MN. I take it there was an experiment with NP 328 being oil fired? |

I'll go out on a limb here and say no HEP on that Geep or on the cars, and the tank car was being used for extra water. Mike Tillger |

Thanks for the clarification. No surprise re: the tank car being for extra water: 328 went on some long jaunts! |

That was one of the runs southwest on the ex-M&StL to Merriam Junction I believe. I recall that they had a tank car for extra water. |

It's purely subjective, given the low resolution and grainy image, but I spy with my little eyes enough color distortion in the coal bin area, just below the edges of the back bin sheet, that I'd say I see coal there, just somewhat low in the hopper. |

I was actually there on a few excursions in 1983-85, including one as coach attendant. NP 328 was never oil fired. period. |
