I am looking for pictures of a journal hook or lifter with dimensions for replication.

If you could post a picture with measurements-would be most appreciated.

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

Here is another one. which seems to be a minor variation of the one in the diagram above.

Go in the shop and ask for one, there is a half a dozen or so laying around, 3 or 4 different styles. Of course , no one will know what they are. LOL

Interesting drawings but all my journal tools working surfaces have been treated with "braze" to keep from scratching the axle. Any of yours that way ???

Journal tool drawings usually specify "mild steel". This to priotect the journal, which is made of heat treated medium carbon steel, from damage. I have never seen any journal tools protected with brazing, but it might been for a speical application where the railway's axles were not as hard as MCB axles, maybe a mine or industrial railway.
