Stopped by Harrison Street yesterday afternoon to pay a visit to an old friend, Milwaukee Road 261. Great progress is being made. The lagging and jacketing are going back on and they expect to be painting later this week. They're going to leave the firebox and cab jacketing off until after they've steamed and moved under their own power so that any leaks in that area can be detected and corrected before the last of the lagging and jacketing goes back on.

Steve Sandberg says he's quite sure that she'll steam before the end of September and will also move under her own power. They do not intend to use the locomotive for any public trips this year, but expect that it'll run a full schedule in 2013.

Excellent news, indeed. Looking forward to my first encounter with 261, hopefully next year. Those that have seen her have said she is about as close to one of my beloved CB&Q O5s that you will find ...

Burlington John

A little over a week ago I got this message regarding fall color trips that will support the 261 project.

Perhaps this may be the ticket for you (October 13 and 14, 2012):

http://www.261.com

Quote:
Many Colors, One Smooth Ride!
Enjoy a smooth ride in one of the Friends Amtrak-certified coaches. Whether it is the
No. 202 or 203, former Algoma Central coaches, or one of our other coaches, you
won't be disappointed. In these well maintained cars, you will have comfy seats, great
views and plenty of space to roam around. Also featured in coach class will be the
Friends baggage/concession car. In this car we will be selling snacks and food, along
with 261 collectibles and memorabilia.

If you have not already purchased your tickets join the fun, if you have purchased
your tickets please help 261 spread the word. Tell your family, friends and anyone you
know who loves trains, about this unique opportunity. This is a very affordable all day
opportunity to enjoy the fall colors by private train.
